Mayuko Obuchi, born in Kyoto/Japan, studied piano and Lied interpretation at the music universities in Kyoto, Munich and Salzburg with Thomas Böckheler, Jacques Rouvier and Helmut Deutsch, among others. She also studied chamber music with Stefan Mendl at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw).
Mayuko has won the following prizes:
1st prize at the Sakai Int. Piano Competition and Int. Anton Rubinstein Competition Düsseldorf
2nd prize at the Int. Johannes Brahms competition Pörtschach in chamber music
Special prize at the Richard Strauss competition Munich
1st prize at the competition “Musikpreis Kulturkreis Gasteig” in the Lied duo. She has performed at the Salzburg Festival, Festival Ravel in Bayonne, Richard Strauss Festival and the Bavarian State Opera Vienna.
Mayuko Obuchi has been working as a pianist at the Ballet Academy of the Vienna State Opera since 2021 and as a senior lecturer for correpetition at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw) from October 2023 on.
